Global poverty is a massive issue affecting almost every country worldwide. According to the World Bank, approximately 767 million people (10.7%) live in extreme poverty, living on less than $1.90 per day. Of this statistic, 328 million children are living in extreme poverty.
Further statistics from UNICEF show that approximately 17 million children suffer from severe acute undernutrition globally. Severe acute malnutrition is the direct cause of mortality of roughly 1 million children each year. Every single day, approximately 1,000 children below 5 years old pass away from illnesses, such as dysentery, cholera, and diarrhea, caused by inadequate sanitation and contaminated water.
